February 14 is Valentines Day - a day girls look forward to and boys dread. Over the years it's become more and more commercialized. So many people say, you should appreciate your partners every day not just this one day. You know what that's true. But sometimes, every now and then, a reminder needs to be given to let the ones you love know they appreciate you. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying how I see it.
Something that surprised me the first Valentine's Day I experienced here in the US was the fuss given to the day at schools. The students must give out Valentines to all their class members. It was a definite shock to me as back in Australia that wasn't the norm (unless it's changed in the last 3 years). Maybe because it's a non-religious oriented day is the reason that everyone gives it a little more attention in schools than it would or should normally have. I'm not sure but it is what it is.
I write romance stories, where love is the integral part of the plot. There is always a happy ever after and I hope there is always a part or parts where the reader sighs with the romantic gestures my hero and heroine do.
I'm a firm believer that we need romance in the world. We need to believe in the goodness of people when there is so much bad stuff shown on the news.
Last month I had a wisdom tooth pulled. What does this have to do with romance? Well an hour or so after I got home it started to throb and was an uncomfortable ache. I sent a text to my husband that it hurt. He then responded did I want him to come home. I've had two C-Sections and didn't need much pain relief as I was recovering from them. This pulled tooth was different! So I said if he could that would be great. He came home and he bought me flowers (the ones pictured above) to make me feel better - one of those wonderful romantic gestures that makes the heart melt.
Whether you like it or nor. Believe it or not. Romance is and always will be a big part of our lives and the world in general.
